3 Win Nobel Prize for Physics for Discoveries About Black Holes
On Tuesday, scientists Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez were awarded the Nobel prize for physics for their discoveries about black holes.
Penrose was awarded the prize "for the discovery that black hole formation is a robust prediction of the general theory of relativity."
Genzel and Ghez were awarded "for the discovery of a supermassive compact object at the center of our galaxy."
Said the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, "Penrose, Genzel and Ghez together showed us that black holes are awe-inspiring, mathematically sublime, and actually exist."
