6.2 Earthquake Hits Indonesia - At Least 34 Dead, 600+ Injured
Early Friday, a strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake hit Indonesia's Sulawesi Island destroying homes and buildings and resulting in at least 34 deaths, 600+ injuries and multiple landslides.
Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency is still trying to excavate people trapped in the rubble of buildings and the full extent of the damage is still unknown.
At least 15,000+ people have been displaced to temporary shelters.
The earthquake comes just one day after a 5.9 earthquake hit in the same region. The 5.9 earthquake damaged some buildings but resulted in no casualties. Residents were warned by authorities of potential aftershocks and to evacuate to higher ground in case of a tsunami.
