Biden Names His Pandemic Response Team
What Happened:
On Monday, Joe Biden announced the members of his health team that will handle the Coronavirus Response when he takes office.
California AG Xavier Becerra was nominated as Secretary of Health and Human Services, Dr. Vivek Murthy was nominated as US Surgeon General, Dr. Rochelle Walensky was nominated as Director for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith was nominated as the Chair of his Covid-19 task force.
Dr. Anthony Fauci will also continue under the new administration as chief medical adviser to the President on the pandemic as well as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Jeff Zients will serve as coordinator of the Covid-19 response team and Natalie Quillian, will serve as deputy coordinator.
Said Biden in a statement, "This trusted and accomplished team of leaders will bring the highest level of integrity, scientific rigor, and crisis-management experience to one of the toughest challenges America has ever faced — getting the pandemic under control so that the American people can get back to work, back to their lives, and back to their loved ones."
