Biden Orders Executive Actions on Gun Control
Updated: Apr 11
On Thursday, President Biden announced some executive actions to combat what he called an "epidemic" of gun violence in America.
The executive actions include a crack down on homemade firearms that lack serial numbers (so called "ghost guns") and tightened regulations on pistol-stabilizing braces.
The President emphasized that these are only the first steps towards addressing gun violence and that he will need Congress' support for additional actions such as a ban on assault weapons or requirements for universal background checks.
The announcement comes in the wake of yet another mass shooting on Wednesday night and just before an additional shooting in Texas on Thursday afternoon. With these latest two shootings, the US has had six active shooter situations in just the last few weeks.
Although the executive actions are limited in scope, Biden is expected to propose a broader reform of gun control to Congress in the near future.
