Biden to Allow 25,000 Asylum Seekers to Enter US
Updated: Feb 13, 2021
On Friday, the Biden administration announced that it plans on allowing tens of thousands of asylum seekers to enter the US while they are awaiting their immigration court hearings.
Authorities say they will begin letting in asylum seekers with active cases from Mexico on Feb 19th. There are an estimated 25,000 asylum seekers with active cases in Mexico.
This dismantles a Trump-era policy which sought to deter asylum seekers from entering the US.
The rollout will be slow at first with approximately 600 people being processed per day.
