Day 2 of the Democratic National Convention - Recap
Joe Biden officially secured the nomination as the Democratic Presidential Candidate during a virtual roll call.
In her brief remarks, Congresswoman Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez did not endorse or even mention Joe Biden and instead backed the nomination of Bernie Sanders for President.
Several people spoke during the event, including Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Chuck Schumer, John Kerry and Jill Biden. Clinton criticized Trump's handling of the pandemic saying the U.S. has “just 4 percent of the world’s population, but 25 percent of the world’s COVID cases...we are the only major industrial economy to have its unemployment rate triple.”
Clinton added, "At a time like this, the Oval Office should be a command center. Instead, it’s a storm center. There’s only chaos. Just one thing never changes—his [Trump's] determination to deny responsibility and shift the blame. The buck never stops there.”
There was also a video presentation documenting the longtime friendship between Joe Biden and John McCain (R) which was narrated by Cindy McCain stressing that Biden is "someone with the willingness and ability to work across the aisle -- someone who believes more in people than partisan labels."
