Day One, President Biden Plans to Undo Several Trump Policies

What's Happening:

  • According to several of his aides, President Biden plans to sign a series of executive actions on day one of his presidency that will reverse Donald Trump's orders on immigration, climate change and the handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • Biden will halt construction on the border wall with Mexico, rejoin the Paris Climate Accord and the World Health Organization, end the travel ban from some Muslim-majority countries and revoke the approval for the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

  • Aides say he will sign the executive orders immediately after taking the oath of office at the Capitol.

  • The 17 executive actions will be the most signed by an incoming president on their first day in office but the Biden administration says it is important to demonstrate a sense of urgency and competence that was lacking in the previous administration.

  • Getting a handle on the coronavirus pandemic is at the top of the list of priorities for the Biden administration. The coronavirus order is expected to include a mask mandate on federal property and to extend the federal eviction freeze. Biden has also set a target of delivering 100 million vaccines over his first 100 days in office.
