De Blasio to Furlough Mayor's Office Because of Budget Crisis

What Happened:
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Wednesday that he will be furloughing the entire Mayor's office for a week (himself included) to help combat the city's budget crisis caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.
The furlough will affect 494 staff members and is expected to yield a savings of $860,000.
The local economy has taken a significant hit because of the pandemic leaving the city with a $9 billion budget deficit.
"We have to make tough choices to move this city forward and keep our budget balanced," said de Blasio.
