Democrats Officially Take Control of Senate
On Wednesday, in one of her first acts as Vice President, Kamala Harris swore in the three new Democratic Senators Jon Ossoff, Raphael Warnock and Alex Padilla and officially gave the Democrats control of the Senate.
The seats in the Senate are evenly split 50-50 between Democrats and Republicans, however, Kamala Harris casts the tie-breaking vote, thereby giving Democrats control.
Said Ossoff, "Today, America is turning over a new leaf. We are turning the page on the last four years, we're going to reunite the country, defeat Covid-19, rush economic relief to the people."
This is the first time Democrats have held control of the Senate, the House and the White House in a decade.
