Facebook Removes Russian Troll Network Ahead of Election

What Happened:

  • Facebook announced Tuesday that it had removed a small network of accounts linked to Russia's Internet Research Agency, the same company that has been using social media accounts since the 2016 election to sow political discord.

  • Facebook began investigating the accounts after a tip from the FBI. There were a total of 13 Facebook accounts and two pages. Facebook says the network was in the early stages of development and had "nearly no engagement" before it was removed.

  • The discovery sparks new concerns about ongoing Russian efforts to influence the US election.
