FDA Confirms Safety and Efficacy Data for Pfizer’s COVID Vaccine
On Tuesday, an FDA advisory committee released a document confirming the efficacy and safety of Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine.
The document confirmed that the vaccine’s efficacy was 95% seven days after the second dose. It also noted that the vaccine seems to provide “some protection” even after the first dose.
The document also attests to the safety of the vaccine saying it was “favorable” and that the most common side effects were reactions at the injection site, fatigue, headache, muscle pain, chills, joint pain and fever. Severe reactions occurred in less than 4.6% of patients.
The data will be taken into consideration by the FDA when it meets this week to discuss emergency use authorization for the vaccine. If approved, vaccines could start being administered within 24-48 hours of the decision.
