FDA Fully Approves Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 Vaccine

What Happened:

• On Monday, the Food and Drug Administration fully approved the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for the prevention of Covid-19 in people 16 or older. The vaccine will be marketed under the name Comirnaty.

• Said Acting FDA Commissioner Janet Woodcock, M.D., "The FDA’s approval of this vaccine is a milestone as we continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic...the public can be very confident that this vaccine meets the high standards for safety, effectiveness, and manufacturing quality the FDA requires of an approved product."

• The vaccine will continue to be available under emergency use authorization for individuals that are 12 to 15 years of age.

• The FDA approval will also potentially make it easier for schools and employers to require vaccinations.
