Fighting Breaks Out Between Armenia and Azerbaijan

What Happened:

• Fighting broke out on Sunday between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.

• According to Armenia, shelling from Azerbaijani forces led to the deaths of a woman and a child. The president of Azerbaijan says his military has also suffered losses.

• The Nagorno-Karabakh region has been an area of dispute for many years and has been under Armenian control since 1994 at the end of a separatist war.

• This is the heaviest engagement between the two forces since July in which 16 people died.
