Fighting Continues Between Armenia and Azerbaijan
Russia attempted to broker a cease-fire between Armenia an Azerbaijan who have been engaged in hostilities over the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. This is the heaviest engagement between the two forces in 25 years.
The truce was meant to go into effect on Saturday, however, new attacks continue to occur as both sides blame the other for not complying with the cease-fire.
The escalation of fighting in the region raises concerns that this could lead to a larger conflict that involves both Russia and Turkey.
The Nagorno-Karabakh region has been an area of dispute for many years and has been under Armenian control since 1994 at the end of a separatist war.
