Georgia’s Secretary of State Certifies Biden as Winner
What Happened:
On Friday, Georgia's Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger (R), certified the election results confirming Joe Biden as the winner of the state for the Presidential Election.
Georgia went through a mandatory hand recount over the last week because the margin of victory between Biden and Trump was less than half of a percent. Final results show Biden beat Trump by 12,284 votes.
During the audit, over 5,800 uncounted votes were discovered, which narrowed Biden's victory over Trump by 1,400 votes. State officials stressed that these were mistakes caused by human error and that there was no indication of widespread fraud in the election.
Raffensperger has received much criticism from the GOP for not agreeing to the concept that there was widespread voter fraud in the state.
Raffensperger defended himself as a "lifelong...conservative Christian Republican" and added "My record will stand on itself. We have done a great job."
