Georgia Senate Runoff Elections - Numbers as of 10:51 PM EST
With roughly 91% of the vote in, the Georgia Senate Runoff Elections are tightening and the Republican candidates have taken the lead in both races:
Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler currently leads 50.8% to 49.2% over Democratic challenger Rev. Raphael Warnock.
Republican Senator David Perdue currently leads 51.2% to 48.8% over Democratic challenger Jon Ossoff.
The closely contested races are under tremendous scrutiny as they will determine control of the Senate. If Republicans win at least 1 of the 2 seats, they will maintain control of the Senate. If Democrats win both of the seats, they will be tied 50-50 with the Republicans leaving Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris to be the deciding vote and thereby giving Democrats control of the Senate.
GOP representatives have said that voter turnout Tuesday was "on track" with what they projected and that they are optimistic. Over three million people, more than a third of registered voters in Georgia, voted early in the runoff elections.
Both President Trump and President-Elect Biden were in Georgia campaigning Monday night. Trump told voters that they must "swarm" the election booths and downplayed concerns about election fraud. Meanwhile, Biden told voters that if the Democrats were to secure the Senate, the $2000 stimulus checks would be sent out to struggling Americans right away.
