House Democrats Unveil New $2.2 Trill. Covid Relief Package

What Happened:

  • On Monday, House Democrats unveiled a new $2.2 trillion Covid-19 relief package.

  • Said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi "It has been more than four months since House Democrats sent the GOP Senate $3.4 trillion in desperately needed coronavirus relief...and [GOP] Leader McConnell hit the pause button."

"In our negotiations...Democrats offered to come down...even as the health and economic crisis has worsened and the needs have only grown." - Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi
  • Pelosi continued, "In our negotiations...since then, Democrats offered to come down a trillion dollars if Republicans would come up...then, we offered to come down $200 billion more, even as the health and economic crisis has worsened and the needs have only grown."

  • This is the first major Covid-19 relief proposal from House Democrats since negotiations fell apart several weeks ago on the previous proposal.
