Hurricane Ida Makes Landfall in Louisiana as a CAT4 With 150 MPH Winds
Updated: Sep 1, 2021

What's Happening:
Hurricane Ida made landfall in Louisiana on Sunday as a dangerous Category 4 hurricane with up to 150 mph winds. It is one of the most powerful hurricanes to ever make landfall in the United States.
Ida also landed 16 years to the day after Hurricane Katrina devastated much of New Orleans.
Officials are warning residents that live along the northern coast of the Gulf of Mexico to prepare for strong winds, life-threatening storm surges and flooding.
Louisiana residents were strongly encouraged to evacuate yesterday ahead of the hurricane. The only reason the evacuation wasn’t mandatory was because the hurricane strengthened so quickly, officials weren't able to prepare evacuation routes in time.
