Hurricane Iota - Category 5 Storm Nears Central America
Hurricane Iota has strengthened to a Category 5 Storm with sustained winds of 160 MPH and is expected to make landfall in Central America on Monday night.
The storm is considered extremely dangerous and is forecast to bring life-threatening storm surges of 15-20 feet and torrential rainfall of 10-20 inches.
The storm is expected to make landfall in Nicaragua first, a country that is still recovering from the devastating effects of the Category 4 Hurricane Eta, which made landfall in Nicaragua nearly 2 weeks ago.
The slow moving storm is the first Category 5 storm of this record-breaking hurricane season and is expected to spend much of the week over Central America leading to concern that there could be further widespread damage in the region.
