Hurricane Zeta Makes Landfall in Louisiana as a CAT2

What's Happening:

  • Hurricane Zeta made landfall in Cocodrie, Louisiana late Wednesday as a Category 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 110 MPH.

  • The fast-moving storm hit the southern coastline of Louisiana, an area that has already been in the path of earlier storms this busy Atlantic Hurricane season.

  • The storm's path seems to be on track to hit New Orleans raising concerns about potential flooding in the area.

  • This is the 27th named storm of the 2020 Atlantic Hurricane Season, tying 2005 as the most active season on record. Zeta is also the furthest into the Greek alphabet the Atlantic season has gone.

  • Zeta's landfall made it the fifth named storm to do so in 2020, setting a new record.
