Iran Blames Israel for Attack at Natanz Nuclear Facility
On Monday, Iran blamed Israel for the blackout at its Natanz nuclear facility, saying it was an act of sabotage.
Iran says the attack damaged its new centrifuges, which are capable of enriching uranium more quickly, and vowed that it would avenge the cyberattack.
Israe has not claimed responsibility for the attack, however, it was considered by many to be the prime suspect behind the cyberattack as the two nations are local enemies. Israel is also suspected to be responsible for an explosion that occurred at the Natanz site back in July.
Either way, this will likely heighten tensions between the two nations and may complicate US efforts to re-enter the atomic accord with Iran, as the US is Israel’s main security partner. The accord is aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear program so it does not develop nuclear weapons.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin landed in Israel on Sunday for talks with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz.
