Israeli PM Netanyahu’s Opponents Have Reached Deal to Remove Him From Office
Updated: Jun 3, 2021

What Happened:
On Wednesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanhyahu’s opponents announced that they have reached a deal to form a new government coalition and remove the longtime Israeli leader from office.
The announcement was made by opposition leader Yair Lapid and his coalition partner Naftali Bennett. Under the new agreement, Lapid and Bennett will each serve as prime minister on a two year rotation.
The agreement needs to be approved by parliament, which plans to vote on the issue next week.
The dramatic announcement came just moments before the midnight deadline, thereby preventing the country’s fifth election in two years.
