Japanese Parliament Elects Kishida As New Prime Minister

On Monday, Japan’s parliament elected the former diplomat, Fumio Kishida, as the new Prime Minister.
Kishida easily beat Yukio Edano in the election and will be sworn in later Monday.
Kishida will take over a struggling economy that took a significant hit during the pandemic under former PM Suga’s leadership.
Suga recently resigned after only 1 year in office.
