Joe Biden is the President-Elect of the United States

Updated: Nov 8, 2020

What's Happening:

  • In a contentious election, Democratic Candidate Joe Biden has secured the 270 Electoral College votes needed to become the President-Elect of the United States, defeating Republican incumbent Donald J. Trump.

  • With record voter turnout, it was a tumultuous election, but ultimately, Biden secured the win by flipping the vote for Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Arizona and keeping all of the states that Hillary Clinton won in the 2016 election.

  • Biden also set the record for the most votes accumulated by a Presidential Candidate in US history, beating out the previous record set by Obama in 2008.

  • Trump is challenging the results of the election suing Michigan, Georgia and Pennsylvania and demanding a recount in Wisconsin. Trump has asked the Supreme Court to intervene in the cases as well.
