Merck Asks FDA to Authorize Anti-Covid Pill
On Monday, pharmaceutical giant Merck asked the US Food and Drug Administration to authorize its Covid-19 treatment pill.
If authorized, it would become the first pill to be used to treat Covid-19 and could be self-administered by patients at their homes.
The drug, molnupiravir, is said to help reduce Covid-19 symptoms and speed recovery from the illness. The FDA will review data to determine the safety and effectiveness of the pill.
Merck says the pill will reduce hospitalizations and deaths by half if administered to patients with early symptoms of Covid-19.
