Moderna To Seek Emergency Use Approval Of Its Covid-19 Vaccine
What Happened:
Pharmaceutical company Moderna says it plans to apply for emergency use authorization of its' Covid-19 vaccine with the FDA on Monday.
Moderna's latest data set shows its' vaccine to be 94.1% effective at preventing Covid-19 and 100% effective at preventing very severe cases of the disease.
Said Dr. Paul Offit of the FDA's vaccine advisory committee, "This is striking...these are amazing data."
Moderna will become the second company to apply with the FDA for emergency use authorization of a Covid-19 vaccine. Pfizer also applied on November 20th.
The FDA and its' advisory committee will meet in December to review the requests from Pfizer and Moderna.
If approved, this could potentially result in the first vaccines being available as early as late December.
