New Book Reveals Trump Downplayed Deadliness of Covid-19 Despite Knowing Risk
In Bob Woodward's new book "Rage", President Trump admits to purposefully downplaying the threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, despite knowing it was "more deadly than even your strenuous flus"...maybe five times "more deadly" than the flu.
Said Trump, "I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down, because I don't want to create a panic."
Several health experts are harshly criticizing Trump's decision to purposefully downplay the the risk of the pandemic, saying that if he had instead taken a more direct stance against the virus, enforced the shutdown earlier in February and maintained a consistent message about wearing masks and social distancing, potentially thousands of American lives could have been saved.
The book is based off of 18 in-person interviews between President Trump and Bob Woodward from December 2019 - July 2020. All of the interviews were recorded with the President's permission.
Trump came out today criticizing the book saying it was "just another political hit job."
White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany defended the President's decision to downplay the risk of the pandemic on Wednesday saying "When you are facing insurmountable challenges, it is important to express confidence, it is important to express calm."
