New Members of the 117th Congress Will Be Sworn In Today

What's Happening:

Both the House and Senate are convening and the new members of the 117th Congress will officially be sworn in today.
New and returning members of the House of Representatives will take the oath of office and the members will vote on a speaker. Nancy Pelosi (D), current Speaker of the House, is expected to maintain her role.
Control of the Senate is still up for grabs until the runoff elections, on Tuesday, determine the final two Senate seats for Georgia. If Republicans win at least 1 of the 2 seats, they will maintain control of the Senate. If Democrats win both of the seats, they will be tied 50-50 with the GOP allowing Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris to be the deciding vote and thereby giving Democrats control of the Senate.
