• On Tuesday, California Governor Gavin Newsom selected California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to take over Vice President-Elect Kamala Harris' Senate seat.

• Said Newsom, "I can think of no one better to represent the state of California as our next United States Senator."

• Padilla will be the first Latino to serve as a State Senator.
