Pelosi Questions Whether Trump is Fit to Serve
What Happened:
On Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi questioned whether Trump's health has affected his fitness to serve and brought up the possibility of invoking the 25th amendment.
The 25th amendment allows the Vice President to become the acting President if the President "is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office."
Said Pelosi, “I think that the public needs to know the health condition of the President. There's one question that he refused to answer…when was his last negative test?"
Pelosi added that this information is necessary in order to “make a judgment about the actions that were taken after” Trump's infection with the Coronavirus.
Pelosi noted Trump's "strange tweet" in which he halted negotiations for a new Coronavirus stimulus package and then abruptly reversed course. On Friday, Pelosi says she will roll out legislation to launch a commission for review.
Trump responded quickly via Twitter saying, "Crazy Nancy is the one who should be under observation. They don’t call her Crazy for nothing!"
To invoke the 25th amendment, Pelosi would need Senate Republicans to agree to it and she would need Vice President Mike Pence to sign the declaration as well, making the chances highly unlikely.
