Powerful Typhoon Chanthu Makes Landfall in the Philippines

What Happened:
On Saturday, the powerful typhoon Chanthu made landfall in northern Philippines bringing heavy rain and life-threatening winds and storm surges.
The typhoon is one of the strongest of the year achieving sustained winds of 160 mph before making landfall, equivalent to a Category 5 hurricane.
The storm is expected to make landfall in Taiwan later Saturday. Officials are warning residents to prepare for torrential rainfall, powerful winds, life-threatening storm surges, landslides and flash flooding.
As of 11 AM, the typhoon has weakened slightly with gusts of up to 155 mph. Taiwan's central weather bureau has downgraded the storm to a medium typhoon.
