Rest of Surfside Condo Demolished Ahead of Tropical Storm Elsa
Updated: Jul 6, 2021

What Happened:
Late Sunday, demolition crews set off explosives to demolish the remaining portion of the South Florida condo that partially collapsed 10 days back.
Search-and-rescue operations will now resume in the hopes of finding survivors in areas that were previously difficult to access.
Approaching Tropical Storm Elsa also added urgency for the demolition as operators were concerned how the storm could affect the already precarious structure.
So far, rescuers have recovered the remains of 24 people from the rubble; 121 people are still missing.
The entire backside of the 12 story residential condo collapsed 10 days ago in what the Mayor called a "catastrophic failure."
