Schumer & Pelosi Call on VP Pence to Invoke 25th Amendment and Remove Trump
New Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D) and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D) have called on Vice President Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment and remove President Trump from office for the remainder of his term.
Several Democratic lawmakers, business groups including the National Association of Manufacturers and even some GOP lawmakers have called for the immediate removal of President Trump from office. They claim Trump is at least partially responsible for the violent invasion of the US Capitol building by Pro-Trump protesters on Wednesday. The protests turned violent resulting in the lockdown of the Capitol building and at least 4 deaths.
The 25th Amendment states, in part, that the Vice President together with a majority of the cabinet can decide that the President is "unable to discharge the powers and duties" of the office. If invoked, the Vice President would become acting President in the interim.
