Senate Parliamentarian Rules Against Including Min. Wage In Covid Relief Bill
What Happened:
On Thursday, the Senate parliamentarian ruled against including the minimum wage increase in Biden's proposed Covid Relief Bill.
The parliamentarian ruled that the $15 per hour increase did not meet the guidelines needed to move forward under the Senate's reconciliation process.
The House will vote on the bill on Friday and will likely still include the minimum wage increase, however, when the bill moves on to the Senate, the minimum wage increase will be removed from the legislation.
This marks the end of a lobbying campaign by Democrats, and especially Senate Budget Chairman Bernie Sanders, to include the minimum wage increase in the relief bill.
