Senate Votes to Acquit Trump of Impeachment Charges

What Happened:
On Saturday, the Senate voted to acquit Donald Trump of his second impeachment charges for "incitement of an insurrection."
The final vote was 57 in favor to convict to 43 in favor of acquitting. Despite the majority of Senators voting to convict Donald Trump, 2/3 of the Senate are needed to convict, therefore, former president Trump will be acquitted of the impeachment charges as they were 9 votes short of the 2/3 majority.
In the final vote, seven Republicans crossed party lines and voted with the Democrats to convict Trump. The final decision to acquit comes as no surprise as many GOP Senators said they planned on acquitting Trump well before the trial began.
