Takeaways from Day 2 of the Barrett Confirmation Hearings
Updated: Oct 14, 2020
On Day 2 of the Senate confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Nominee, Amy Coney Barrett, the tone became more confrontational as Democrats tried to discern how she would rule on certain major cases such as abortion rights, the Affordable Care Act and whether she would recuse herself from a Presidential Election case.
Barrett, for her part, was noncommittal and said she would decide cases "as they come."
Said Barrett, “Judges can’t just wake up one day and say I have an agenda — I like guns, I hate guns, I like abortion, I hate abortion — and walk in like a royal queen and impose their will on the world...It’s not the law of Amy. It’s the law of the American people.”
Republicans and the President are rushing to confirm Amy Coney Barrett before the November election.
President Trump has gone on record saying that the November Presidential Election might well be decided by the Supreme Court, especially if he has doubt to the validity of the outcome and that it was very important to confirm the nomination as soon as possible.
