Terrorist Attack in France Results in 3 Dead
What Happened:
At least 3 people were killed in a knife attack in Nice, France on Thursday. According to the Mayor, the attack was a terrorist incident.
The attacker was shot by police and is now in custody.
This is the third attack over the last two months in France. It is believed the attacks are a response from the Muslim community over caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad that were republished by the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.
Charlie Hebdo was famously attacked by two Islamist gunmen in 2015 when they first published these caricatures. The attack resulted in 12 deaths and several more wounded.
Said Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi, "I am on the scene with the police who arrested the attacker. Everything points to a terrorist attack."
He added, "He [the assailant] cried ‘Allah Akbar!’ over and over, even after he was injured...The meaning of his gesture left no doubt."
France's Anti-Terrorist department is investigating the attack.
