Texas GOP Petitions Judge to Throw Out 117,000 Ballots

What Happened:

  • On Friday, the Texas Supreme Court ordered Harris County to respond to a petition requesting the invalidation of 117,000+ ballots that were cast by voters in drive-thru voting.

  • The petition, filed by state Rep. Steve Toth, R-The Woodlands, GOP activist Steven Hotze and two Republican candidates in Harris County, argues that drive-thru voting is an illegal expansion of curbside voting.

  • Curbside voting, which is legal in the state, is for voters who have an illness or disability that could put them at risk if forced to enter a polling place.

  • Earlier this month, the Houston Appeals Court dismissed the Texas Republican Party's lawsuit which wanted to limit curbside and drive-thru voting in Harris County.
