The Electoral College Will Formally Cast Its’ Votes on Monday
On Monday, Presidential electors representing the Electoral College will officially cast their votes for the Presidential election.
The results will then be sent to Washington DC and tallied during a joint session of Congress on Jan. 6.
The votes of the Electoral College have drawn more attention this year because President Trump refuses to concede the election and continues to make claims of voter fraud. So far these claims have been almost universally dismissed by the courts.
In 32 states and Washington DC, there are laws which require the state electors to vote with the popular vote. Typically, this is the case either way. In the expected tally, Biden won 306 electoral votes and Trump won 232 votes. 270 votes are required to win the election.
