Top Democrats Call For NY Gov. Cuomo's Resignation Amid Harassment Allegations

What Happened:

  • On Friday, several top Democrats, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jerry Nadler joined in calling for New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign amid the growing number of sexual harassment and assault claims.

  • Said the two NY senators in a joint statement, "Due to the multiple, credible sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of his governing partners and the people of New York. Governor Cuomo should resign."

  • In addition, almost the entire New York congressional delegation and the majority of Democrats in the state legislature have also called for Cuomo to step down.

  • Cuomo now has two sexual assault allegations and six harassment allegations leveled against him in what has become an enormous political scandal.

  • Cuomo continues to deny any wrongdoing, stating in a press conference today that, "Women have a right to come forward and be heard and I encourage that fully. But...I did not do what has been alleged. Period."

  • Cuomo maintains that he never inappropriately touched or propositioned anyone and said on March 1 that he will cooperate fully with the sexual harassment investigation led by the state’s attorney general, Letitia James.
