Trump Announces Several Pardons
On Tuesday, President Trump announced several pardons including former campaign aide George Papadopoulos, Dutch attorney Alex van der Zwaan, former US congressmen Duncan Hunter and Chris Collins, and the four Blackwater guards involved in the massacre in Iraq.
The pardons for Papadopoulos and Alex van der Zwaan are of note as they both pleaded guilty and served prison time in the Mueller investigation. Both were arrested for lying to investigators during the Mueller investigation.
The former Congressmen were sentenced to prison for different reasons. Hunter was sentenced to 11 months in prison for misuse of $200,000 in campaign funds for personal expenses. Collins pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit securities fraud and one count of making a false statement and was sentenced to 26 months in prison.
Many expect several more pardons from Trump over the next few weeks as he prepares to leave office.
