Trump Ends Stimulus Negotiations Until After Election
On Tuesday, President Trump ordered White House negotiators to cease negotiations for a second Covid-19 Stimulus Bill until after the presidential election in November.
Said Trump in a tweet, "I have instructed my representatives to stop negotiating until after the election when, immediately after I win, we will pass a major Stimulus Bill that focuses on hardworking Americans and Small Business."
Many were surprised at the order. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have been negotiating for several days with the hope of achieving an agreement before the election.
The decision to cease negotiations is a difficult one for many Americans who are currently in difficult financial situations or unemployed.
The order comes on the same day that Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell warned that a second wave of coronavirus could "significantly limit economic activity, not to mention the tragic effects on lives and well-being."
