US Capitol Officer Died From Injuries Sustained in Pro-Trump Riot
US Capitol officer Brian Sicknick died late Thursday from injuries sustained during the Pro-Trump riot on Wednesday.
In a statement issued by the Capitol police, they said, “Officer Sicknick was responding to the riots on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at the U.S. Capitol and was injured while physically engaging with protesters. He returned to his division office and collapsed. He was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.”
The riot started just after 1 PM EST on Wednesday, when hundreds of pro-Trump protesters pushed through barriers surrounding the Capitol and invaded the building, resulting in an armed standoff with officers, multiple injuries and arrests and at least 5 riot related deaths.
Lawmakers and Vice-President Pence were evacuated from the building.
Federal and local law enforcement also found at least two pipe bombs in the surrounding areas.
President Trump has been widely criticized for his role in the incident and some lawmakers have called for his immediate removal from office.
