US Reaches Highest Number of Covid-19 Infections in One Day
Latest Updates with the Coronavirus:
On Friday, the US reported over 80,000 new Coronavirus infections - the highest daily number of infections since the start of the pandemic.
As the second wave of Coronavirus infections hits, experts warn that we could hit over 100,000 cases a day very shortly.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, says that, in light of the surge of new cases across the nation, it might be time to start mandating the use of masks. Historically, Fauci has not supported a mandate to use masks saying he trusted the American people to follow guidelines willingly rather than being forced to do so.
Surgeon General Jerome Adams said that hospitalizations have gone up in 75% of the jurisdictions across the country. The positive news is that the mortality rate has decreased significantly thanks to better treatments and more developed patient care.
Global confirmed cases of Covid-19 surpassed 42.2 million and 1.1 million deaths.
The US continues to be the hardest hit of all countries with nearly 8.5 million cases and 220,000+ deaths (source Johns-Hopkins).
