US Recovery Continues to Slow - 140,000 Jobs Lost in December
The US economy cut 140,000 jobs in December. This is the first decrease since April, 2020.
Unemployment stayed at 6.7%, the first time it hasn't decreased since April, 2020.
The nation remains down about 9.9 million jobs since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The effects of the pandemic on the economy are expected to continue through winter and even early spring. However, many economists are optimistic that upcoming widespread vaccine distribution and additional aid from the now Democratic-controlled House and Senate will help bolster the recovery.
