US Will Withdraw More Troops From Afghanistan and Iraq

• On Tuesday, Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller announced that the US will withdraw 2,500 US troops from both Afghanistan and Iraq by Jan 15, 2021.

• Currently, there are about 4,500 US troops in Afghanistan and 3,000 troops in Iraq.

• The move comes after former Defense Secretary Mark Esper was fired last week. Esper was against a premature withdrawal of troops in Afghanistan until further conditions on the ground were met.
