What Happened:
On Monday, the Vatican said that the Catholic church would not bless same-sex unions and that it considers homosexuality to be a "sin" and a "choice."
The message put forth by the Vatican was approved by current Pope Francis and creates an even further divide between the Catholic church and the LGBTQ community. Francis has previously been praised for being more welcoming to the LGBTQ community.
The decision comes as a disappointment for many LGBTQ activists who were hoping the Catholic church would change its stance on the issue of same-sex marriage considering Francis' warmer tone.
